Carrying a reap hook by drowningwoman Carrying a reap hook by drowningwoman
Full name: Carrying a reap hook or a camera

I was given the opportunity to explore one of my favourite homes in New Orleans. Built three years after the emancipation proclamation it is the very picture of southern New Orleans grandeur. I fall in love with this home every time I see it. Her cracks, her obvious age are all part of her charm.

My intense gratitude to Tom Piccirilli, for the use of his words from the brilliant novel, A Choir of Ill Children, for the naming of these photographs.

I like the contrast between the left and the right - the looming architecture on the right, and the bright & eerie trees on the left.
I would love to see a larger full-sized image.

If I did this piece I would use a different colour filter - I would my favourite; a Histogram Adjustment, -25 red, +25 blue. You can see the sorts of colours that would produce with [link] - albeit that has been fine-tuned more, by lessening the saturation a tad.

Please note that you have to start from a greyscale image, if you start from a green-toned image the effect will be different.

I use Paintshop Pro but I am sure that Photoshop would have an equivalent.

If you wouldn't mind; I could show you a modified version of the image, which would be stored temporarily on my photobucket account?
(Note: that is a private account, not a gallery, and the image would be clearly marked as being yours, not mine.)

Note: photobucket is being a bit sluggish at the moment ... so don't be too surprised if you get 404 errors or such like.
Sorry about that, trust my host to go down just as I try and use it for something!

Ah, well it has been a while longer than I had expected... so I have fiddled a wee bit more...
The red-high / blue-low version was made using Histogram Adjustment red -25, blue +25
The blue-high / red-low version was made using Histogram Adjustment red+25, blue -25
and...
The more fiddled with version, I used the red-high version but faded the top part into just blueness.

Really great perspective in this one, as it helps to enahnce the granduer that you're trying to capture. The slight digital enhancement concerning colour only accentuates this more. A very well planned shot. It's beautiful!
